The answer to that question is yes, you can get a free annual credit score but it does come with a few catches that we’ll explain here in just a minute or so. What you have to understand is that by law, you are entitled to receive a free annual credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and Transunion. “Why Not?”

Hold on a minute, you just hit the nail on the head. They are ads! Why does any business run an ad? If your answer was to eventually sell something, you are absolutely correct! And since it was stated that you can get an free annual credit score above, let’s delve into that and explore just how you can do it.

The first that you need to understand is that by going to any of the websites that advertise get your free credit score or free credit report are nothing more than sites designed to sell you some type of monthly credit monitoring report. Got that? Are you sure? Ok. Now let’s move on with it.

If you really, really need your credit score in a hurry and you are comfortable in the fact that you will have to supply your credit card information and you don’t want to contact the major credit reporting companies directly, then here is how to go about getting that free credit score of yours.

First thing you will need to do is sign up and supply your basic information. The next step is used to verify your identity. You will need to supply your social security number here. One thing you should know, since these sales websites are operated by the 3 major credit reporting companies, security on the sites is excellent.

After you are identified by a series of questions, you will need to supply your credit card number because you are going to be charged. This charge will usually be a dollar. Now once you receive your credit reports and your credit score, make a note of the date. Most membership programs that these sites are designed for will give you a free 7 day trial.

Once you have the information that you need, you need to do 3 things. One, send an email informing the company that you are canceling! Two, call the company and inform them that you are canceling, make note of the date and three, place a phone call to your credit card company informing them you have canceled.

Seems like a lot of work to get a free annual credit score doesn’t it? You bet it does! Or, you can just contact each credit company direct and pay for it. It is just that simple.
